Payment types for events
There are many different payment types that you may consider accepting for your events. The following help doc will help you understand which ones Corsizio supports and how they are handled.
For Online Payments
Corsizio only accepts standard payment cards (debit and credit cards) as online payment methods for your event registrations on our platform via Stripe (our chosen payment processor).
- Credit Card Payments — Credit cards, such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and JCB, are the primary online payment methods accepted as payment for your events. Credit card payments are processed by Stripe (our chosen payment processor), and no credit card numbers are stored on Corsizio's servers.
- FSA credit card payments are also accepted but require special authorization from Stripe. To accept these payments for your registrations, contact Stripe to have them approve your account or explain how to configure it to allow for these cards. The configuration is not done on our end but within your Stripe account.
- Debit Card Payments — As long as the debit card is authorized for online purchases, debit cards work the same as credit card payments. They are processed by Stripe (our chosen payment processor), and no debit card numbers are stored on Corsizio's servers.
To accept credit and debit card payments, you need to connect your bank account to Corsizio via Stripe and operate in one of the currencies accepted by Stripe and offered on Corsizio. Credit and debit card payments can be accepted automatically as part of the attendee's registration or be manually entered by you during manual registrations.
For Offline Payments
You can accept any of the following payment methods, if you turn on offline payments as an option for your event registrations.
- Cash — Once this payment is received from your attendee for their event registration, it can be entered as an offline payment in Corsizio within their registration record.
- Checks — Once this payment is received from your attendee for their event registration, it can be entered as an offline payment in Corsizio within their registration record.
- Payment cards — If you have a card processing terminal, you can also accept credit and debit card payments as offline payments. Once this payment is received from your attendee for their event registration, it can be entered as an offline payment in Corsizio within their registration record.
- Bank Money Transfers — Once this payment is received from your attendee for their event registration, it can be entered as an offline payment in Corsizio within their registration record.
- For example, when getting an e-transfer Interac payment in Canada, or any similar direct transfer payment in any other region in the world.
- Gift Certificates / Credit Vouchers — While Corsizio does not provide such a feature directly, if you have your own method of issuing gift certificates or credit vouchers, you can enter them as an offline payment method on Corsizio. A possible way to achieve a result, like a gift certificate or credit voucher on Corsizio, would be to use the coupon feature, where you would provide a physical or digital voucher to the party buying the certificate for a specific event with a unique coupon code.
- For example, make a coupon code as the person's name or something equally personal for that individual and make the coupon for 100% off if the event registration is meant to be fully prepaid. Then, when the recipient receives the gift certificate coupon and registers for the event on the certificate, they enter the coupon code found on their voucher and receive that discounted rate. Please keep in mind that this method will record a discount in the system and your reports; it will not record this as revenue.
- Barter / Energy Exchange / Volunteer Time — Once this agreement is realized between you and your attendee as part of their event registration, it can be entered as an offline payment in Corsizio within their registration record.
Not Supported Online Payment Types
None of the following are accepted as online payment types on Corsizio, but they can be accepted as offline payment types, and recorded accordingly in the attendee's registration record.
- PayPal — To keep the service as simple, effective, and efficient as possible for everyone, Corsizio does not use other payment processors besides Stripe for online payments. Therefore, PayPal is not supported, as it is another payment processor that would be redundant for our platform.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay — Both are digital wallet services and are not available as online payment methods on Corsizio.
- Klarna — This is a digital bank that provides "buy now, pay later" options, which allows consumers to make purchases and pay for them in installments. Corsizio does not support any such payment options for online payments during registrations.
- Limited Geographic Region Payment Systems — Other payment methods, which have limited use or are only available in a limited geographic area are not available as online payment methods on Corsizio. These include the following and many others (not listed):
- Alipay — A digital wallet service used in China.
- Bancontact — A payment system used in Belgium.
- iDEAL | Wero — A direct bank transfer payment system used in the Netherlands.
- SEPA Direct Debit — A direct debit payment method used in some European countries.
- SOFORT — A direct bank transfer payment method used in some European countries.
- PayNow — A direct bank transfer payment system used in Singapore.
- ACH Payments — Automated Clearing House payments provide electronic transfers of funds between banks and credit unions using a centralized network. While Stripe does support ACH payments for US-based businesses, Corsizio does not offer this payment method for your registrations given that ACH payments do not provide immediate funds, the process required to verify and receive ACH payments is cumbersome, it requires an integration through yet another system - Plaid, there is a higher refund and dispute risk, and it is not an optimized or easy payment method for our customers to deal with.
- Please refer to Stripe's ACH Guide to learn more about this process.
- Stripe Terminal Readers are currently not supported on Corsizio to accept point-of-sale credit card payments, as the platform's current focus is online event registrations and not e-commerce sales. However, you can accept manual card payments from your attendees anytime.
